Meet iU Academy Learning Center’s founder, Nelly Kagoro.

Nelly has been partnered Inter-United (iU) for more than 10 years.

As a young adult, Nelly deeply felt the desire to help the Soweto area. A Kenyan herself, she started by sponsoring and mentoring single, teenage mothers in Soweto through a partnership with Raggamuffin.

But she didn’t want to stop there. Nelly knows that if you raise a generation that knows the value of their personal contributions to the community, they can bring about change. Thus the idea of iU Academy began.

Nelly has one child of her own. Connie has taught Nelly many wonderful things about the way a child’s mind works. Nelly is the founder and lead administrator of iU Academy.

Kindergarten

Meet Teacher Violet.

She is the founding Kindergarten teacher at the iU Academy in Kenya. She has been working with Nelly at the Saturday Program in Soweto for more than 4 years.

Teacher Violet is a huge fan of soccer and played as a goalie growing up. She is always up for a friendly match.

Teacher Violet has two young children of her own. She definitely has a soft spot for listening and working with children.

First Grade

This is Teacher Carol!

She will be teaching the 1st grade class at iU Academy.

She has also been working with Nelly at her Saturday Program in Soweto.

Carol loves to sing and teach the children new songs.

Teacher Carol has three children of her own. She usually sings to her children and her students.
